Casa Rosada (Balcarce 50, Monserrat district, Buenos Aires) – located near the Plaza de Mayo toward central Buenos Aires, la Casa Rosada is the executive mansion and office of the President of Argentina. A balcony on its north wing was used by famed Argentine politician Eva (Evita) Perón to address her supporters, as well as Argentine military dictator Gen. Leopoldo Galtieri to declare war against Britain during the ill-fated Falklands War of 1982.
There is also a museum on site – which contains mementos from previous Argentine presidencies over the centuries. The Casa Rosada has been declared a national historic monument of Argentina. Public tours (which are free) take place on Saturdays & Sundays from 10 am – 6 pm. More info can be found at: www.presidencia.gov.ar
